Self-Isolation Activities

Hi, everyone. I know the world is a little bit crazy right now and the uncertainty can be quite scary. I don’t think any of us really knows what’s going to happen and how long this is going to last. I don’t want to go into too much detail about Coronavirus as I know it can be triggering to those with anxiety.

I have had to keep myself isolated for 6 days so far as I started displaying symptoms of Coronavirus. I am okay but I’m also really looking forward to leaving the house at some point. For the first couple of days, I didn’t have the energy to do anything other than watching Netflix but now I’m starting to feel a bit better I thought it would be a good idea to put together some ideas to keep you occupied during self-isolation.

Board Games

If you live with friends and/or family, now is the time to make the most of it. Spend time together without being on your phone or watching TV. Why not try playing some board games? May don’t do this if you are showing symptoms and make sure you clean the pieces once you are done but who doesn’t love a competitive game of Monopoly?

Reading/Writing

I don’t know about you but I have a huge pile of books on my To Be Read list so now is the perfect time to get started on that. It’s nice to not have any distractions for once and I have more than enough time to kill. I’m starting with Louis Theroux’s book Gotta Get Theroux This. If you don’t feel comfortable touching books, I’d recommend trying Audiobooks.

Video Games

I’ve seen a lot of posts on social media talking about how you need to be as productive as possible with your time. However, I disagree. Don’t feel guilty about doing things that make you happy, especially if you are feeling very anxious at the moment. Video Games can be very fun distractions. I have been playing The Sims A LOT recently and I find that it is a great way of passing the time and distracting me from worrying too much.

Baking/Cooking

We all know that the shops are pretty bare at the moment but why not look through your cupboards and see what you can put together to do some baking or batch cooking. Baking and/or cooking will make your house smell good and hopefully make you feel good too. Yesterday I made chocolate chip banana bread (click here for recipe) and so far I have eaten almost half of it because I cannot stop eating.

TV/Film

I’m sure a lot of you will have loads of films and TV shows on your Netflix list so you might as well take advantage of this time and get started on a new series. I’m thinking of starting Mad Men or I might finish This is Us.

Cleaning/DIY

I think this pandemic is making us think more about cleanliness and bacteria so it might be a good idea to clean your house or do some DIY. If you’ve been putting off tidying that messy cupboard in your kitchen then now is the time to do it.

Facetime friends/family

If you’re on your own or have other friends or family members who are alone, it might be a good idea to set up a group chat or set aside time in the day to specifically chat to your friends and family.

I hope you’re all doing okay and staying safe. Fingers crossed this doesn’t last much longer.
