Hello, everyone!
For some background info, last year I graduated from the University of Lincoln with a BA (Hones) in Media Production and this year I decided to do a Masters in Documentary Journalism. Before I started, I shared a post on how I felt about going back to uni after taking a year out and now that I’ve finished my first three weeks, I thought I would update you on how I’m getting on.
If you read my previous post, you’ll know that I was really nervous about going back to university and was really doubting myself but honestly, I am really enjoying university so far. At first, I was pretty overwhelmed because I have A LOT of deadlines so I’m still a little bit worried about having to do so much work in so little time. The first thing that we have to do is an audio portfolio and I’ve never really worked with audio before so that will be interesting, to say the least.
Before starting, I was worried about not making any friends but fortunately, my course is really small (there are only 9 of us) and everyone is really nice so I feel quite lucky there. When I was doing my undergraduate degree, we didn’t really have many tutorials, we were expected to teach ourselves most of the time. Whereas now, we have had so many tutorials on so different software and also for photography which I think is brilliant. The tutors and technicians are all so nice and are so helpful which I love.
I’ll be honest in that I think there was better equipment when I was at the University of Lincoln but here at NTU, it’s more centred towards journalism students so the equipment is a bit different but I think I should be alright in using my own equipment. It also gives me more of an excuse to buy more lenses and lights. At the moment my course is heavily focused on radio documentary so I’m looking forward to moving onto film documentary. Also, I have to actually do exams this year and I haven’t done an exam in over 4 years so that will be fun. The exams are all law based which I’m actually really enjoying – I love learning about law so hopefully it will go well.
Outside of my course, I joined the Documentary Society which is pretty fun. I like that it’s a pretty chill society so I can just go when I want to chill out and socialise with different people. I wanted to join the Blogging Society too but they haven’t really done anything since the first week so I think I’ll give that a miss for now.
I hope you all have a good weekend.
