Blogmas Day 11!
Christmas party season is finally upon us. While we’re all struggling with what to wear, someone has to choose the songs for the party. Nothing gets you in the mood for Christmas quite like the chimes at the beginning of Do They Know it’s Christmas? Here are some of my favourite Christmas songs that would definitely make it onto my party playlist.
1. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey
This song gets me so pumped for Christmas, I even listen to it when I need a little motivation. This song is bound to get everyone on the dancefloor at any party and is a Christmas classic.
2. Last Christmas – Wham!
This is another class that will get everyone singing along. Perhaps not the happiest of songs but it’s great for belting out the lyrics at a party. I may or may not be singing along to this right now.
3. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas – Michael Bublé
It’s not Christmas without a little bit of Bublé so it would be wrong to not include him on a Christmas party playlist. I also really love Holly Jolly Christmas but any of the songs on his Christmas album will be a great choice.
4. Santa Baby – Kylie Minogue
This is a little sexier so perfect for later on in the evening when people have had a few drinks. Another great song for singing along too and getting people on the dancefloor.
5. Step Into Christmas – Elton John
This song is so upbeat, it automatically puts you in a good mood. I wish it was acceptable to listen to Christmas music all year round although you’d probably get sick of it.
6. Do They Know it’s Christmas? – Band Aid (1984 version)
This song ALWAYS reminds me of that scene in Gavin and Stacey where Gav and Smithy sing this song to each other on the phone. I would say that this is my favourite Christmas song because not only is it raising awareness for a great cause, it also has the most amazing chimes at the beginning of the song that immediately make you feel so pumped.
7. Merry Xmas Everybody – Slade
This was played at every school disco I ever went to so I had to include it in this list. I love this song and it just makes you happy. This is another belter as you HAVE to sing along when you hear it. I think it’s physically impossible to listen to this song without singing along.
8. Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord – Boney M.
I remember I used to play this song on the repeat to annoy my brother so I always enjoy listening to this song. I love how upbeat this song is, it makes me want to dance listening to it right now.
9. Happy Xmas (War is Over) – John Lennon
This one isn’t quite as upbeat but it is such a classic. The bells jingling in the background makes it so Christmassy, especially when the choice start to sing along. This song was originally a protest song against the Vietnam War but peaked after John Lennon’s death in 1980.
10. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Sam Smith
Every party needs a slow song and why not include this beautiful song covered by Sam Smith? This is so festive and will definitely get you feeling Christmassy so it would make sense to have it at a Christmas party.
